Teaching Approach
I discovered a passion for teaching in my first job out of college when I worked as a sales engineer at Sun Microsystems. Conducting lunch-n-learns and training presentations were my favorite parts of that first career, which drew me back to graduate school to become a professor.
These days, I love teaching students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as working professionals and leaders through workshops, webinars, and presentations.
My approach to teaching is to create an engaging experience in which students can think about the material being taught, engage with it by discussing, applying, and reflecting on it, and practice carrying out the principles through role-play simulations and case study exercises. I really enjoy the creativity involved in generating new teaching content and using technology to deliver it across various modalities and in innovative ways.
For my university students, in particular, I strive to deliver a personalized experience with significant individual interaction, variety in content and methods, connections to the outside world, thought-provoking discussion, application, and reflection, and high expectations with plenty of encouragement. I treasure the privilege to walk alongside these students as they pursue their unique calling and learn about ways they can best apply their unique gifts.
